The Si Burick Journalism Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Miami Valley high school graduating senior desiring to pursue college studies leading to a career in journalism. The scholarship will pay up to $2,000 toward first-year tuition expenses at the college the winner attends.
In addition, the "Mickey Davis Summer Internship" program will be available to the recipient during their four year college career.
Selection will be based not only on academic and extracurricular achievement, but also on an evaluation of each applicant's journalistic goals.
Evidence of outstanding writing ability will be critical in the selection process.
Nominations must be submitted to the Dayton Daily News no later than March 31, 2011. The decision of the selection committee is final.
NOTE: Neatness, legibility and completeness of replies will have an influence on the selection of scholarship recipients.
Applications, financial statements, writing samples, high school transcripts and letters of recommendation must be submitted by March 31.
Include a sample or samples of your writing ability. Materials submitted should have been published in your high school newspaper, community newspaper, etc. If published material is not available, please include samples of classroom writing.
